Our History
The Anthony Richards® story begins in the 1950s when Anthony Richards opened his first clothing store in Los Angeles, California. As a young entrepreneur, Anthony had a vision to create beautiful yet practical dresses, house dresses, and nightgowns for women.
In the post-war era, casual wear was becoming popular but selection was still limited. Anthony saw an opportunity to design comfortable at-home apparel with thoughtful details and flattering silhouettes. His inaugural collection of house dresses and nightgowns was an immediate success.
Throughout the 1960s and 70s, the Anthony Richards® brand expanded across the United States. Anthony paved the way for modern lounge and sleepwear with his innovative use of fabrics like brushed nylon and stretch lace. His floral prints and vibrant colors brought new life to everyday garments.
By the 1980s, Anthony Richards® was a household name. Working women now appreciated the effortless transition from daywear to nightwear that our dusters and caftans allowed. Our flowing maxi dresses also emerged as closet staples that embodied California-cool style.
